Why Blog?
Do you remember the first time you heard of a Blog? I do, part of me thought it was cool, but most of me was skeptical. Why not just write in a personal journal? Isn't that a bit egotistical to think that people would want to read your reflection? etc.
So I am probably not the person to write about "why blog?", as this is only my second entry. But then again this is my blog, so I guess that qualifies me.
Why I am blogging . . .
1) If you noticed my profile you saw that one of my interests is writing. The only way you get better at writing is by actaully doing it. Seeing as this is a cheap form of publication, and it will publish anything I write, I kind of like that. It is good practice, and writing is all about just doing it.
2) I blog for the spiritual discipline. Journaling has been a great part of my relationship with the Lord, and the discipline of journaling my thoughts and prayers, has been very helpful in my spiritual life. (so you might read a lot of prayers here.) In the last couple months I have not been very good about journaling, so I am hoping this will help, and inspire me to journal more.
3) I blog for learning. As Brian McLaren says, "Learning isn't a result of listening, it is a result of thinking." Writing my thoughts out helps me think.
In addition, learning is not something to be done privately, it is a community effort. Blogging gives you the ability to interact with my thoughts, so that we will grow together. So I encourage you to feel great freedom to interact with me at any level.
4) I blog for accountablity of thought. Quite often I get crazy ideas, that I need to change, or mold, or through away completely. Thinking out loud gives my thoughts a chance to be checked and examined by others, rather than embedding crazy thoughts (of theology/church/life) in my head where they are go unchecked. (One other thought on accountability . . . if I fail in blogging, and this is my last post, my failure is at least before Aaron Geist as I know he reads this, and that is living an open life, which I greatly value.)
5) I blog for personal reasons, but mostly I blog for community. I deeply desire community where we are passionate about following Jesus, and discovering what that means together. In a sense this is just another one of my feeble attempts at community. A desparate, pathetic, plea for people to join me in following Jesus and discoving what that means in our day and in our time.
Thank you for reading. I hope I make it worth our while, and maybe even inspire you to Blog.

Hey Jon,
1) Congradulations on using the bold tag....I'm proud of you.
2) I resonate with your 'as of late journaling times.' Mine have dissappeared as well. I hope that your site, (and mine) ((and others too???)) will encourage my own writing.
3) I am more than happy to comment when necessary, or when not.
4) I'm sure that I'm the only one reading this as of now, so.... keep posting so that I can read your thoughts!
Aaron
P.S. I hope Lynsey learns the ways of the blog, and begins to enjoy them too!
Thanks for the encouragement. Maybe I will get some traffic on my site by being linked to yours.
Dude, I just posted. Get of the internet man. Are you a dork?
don't tell me what to do, you get off the internet.
You guys spend entirely too much time together.
Meanwhile, congrats on the deep blog. While mine may include deep thoughts (ha!), it'll probably end up more of a long-distance scrapbook.
Love the scrap book. I put a link up from my page so others can enjoy it.
