I could use some help . . .
In Acts 18 the gospel comes back to a Jewish audience that holds the scriptures as from God. So the Old Testament becomes the central focus of the conversation of who Jesus is. Those preaching the Gospel are trying to show from scripture that Jesus was the Christ (the Messiah, the promised one).
I think the contrast in these two chapters (Acts 17 -- see previous post) shows that though the good news is the same for everybody, how you communicate it might be different for each person.
So here is my question, which I would love input on:
1) Who are the authorities for the emerging generations today? (Musicians, authors, actors, etc.)
2) And what are they saying that accurately communicates the message of God, or shows that they are seeking after God?
One song that pops into my head from John Mayer's "Something's Missing." The song resonates with the truth of God, and shows him seeking (even if he has not found God yet).
Any thoughts?

Here is an interesting article in Christianity Today about the band Cold Play. I think this fits along the lines of your post.

Dude I love this question. “Who are the authorities for the emerging generations today?” I do think part of my answer is going to be based on geography, i.e. where you come from shapes and forms whom you are and thus is going to develop an individual into who they will eventually become.
As far as specific individuals that are going to be an influence on today, I cannot think of many that span across the great divide of people. People are so different and unique, that one or two sole entities cannot cover that vast social versatility.
I think that with more and more of the world going to an online, plug and play society, more and more people are reading less and listening to more music, so I think music is becoming a stronger influence than the written word was 40 to 50 years ago.
I think what ever it is that is influencing the youth or even people in general, be it music, movies, T.V., the printed word, it is different to everyone.
I think you are right OJ. It will probably be different for everyone. I wonder if there are any common threads with groups of people though, even if it isn't true for everyone.
Jon, I agree with your hope that there is a common thread, hopefully created of goodness or something pure that connects all people together, but there are times I do not see it. From the time someone does not hold the door for an old lady to speeding across a cross walk to make a yellow light instead of letting someone cross…
I hope for the best in people, I wish we were all linked by something. If we were, maybe all the violence in the world would be reduced and people would be kinder to each other?
The thing is people need basic things to survive, but that might not be enough to link us, food, water and air, but we seem to forget that. After that people tend to need and want different things and that is what drives that wedge between them.
