Mud
I think it is interesting that Jesus uses mud to heal the blind man in John 9. He could do it any way he wants, and do it with nothing. Yet he smears mud on the guys eyes. Why mud? It wasn't the mud that healed the guy, it was God. Yet Jesus used mud?
Any thoughts?

And He made the mud with His spit! Hmmm....
was the man realy blind, or was this a parable to show how man is blind to Gods will, and only through Christ can our "muddied" vison be cleared to see Gods plan for our lives
I guess I never really considered whether it was a parable or not, as the flow of the text makes it sound like it actually happened, verses the many parables that Jesus told.
Regardless, I think your point is well taken. There is a spiritual message communicated through this passage. The blind man was given sight (and new life) through Christ, it was the religous who were actaully the blind ones. Jesus is the one who gives us the ability to see God's pan for our lives. I do believe that is the point of the story that John tells.
Thanks for your input Debbie!
Hi Jon,
Just a quick thought on this matter of mud. One of the differences between nature and fallen man is that nature does what God created it to do--glorify God! It does not stand in defiance of Him because of sin, it just does what ever He created it to do. Birds sing, grass grows, worms work the soil, the stars in their courses obediently shine. The Word tells us that if man does not praise God, then the rocks will cry out to do so (Luke 19:40). Although mud seems quite earthy and common, it is what Jesus took in his hand to use on the blind man's eyes. Whatever He did with mud, the mud did as Jesus wanted it to. Ah, that we would be as good as mud in the Savior's hands!
Blessings,
Linda B.
