Faith
Only 5 more chapters in the quest I set out on a long time ago. Blogging through the Gospels and Acts asking the question what is the kingdom of God? What is the Gospel? I feel like this one study has been the best most life changing study I have been a part of.
But getting back to today's reading, all looking at the theme of belief. All throughout the book of John the disciples have believed. Here in John 17, the disciples respond to Jesus' words, "This makes us believe that you came from God." Three years of following Jesus, seeing miracles, living with him, listening to him, and now this comment?
Jesus responds, "You believe at last!" But a time has come and is here when you will be scattered.
Faith is a tricky thing, isn't it? I think the Gospel of John is showing us that faith isn't just a you have or don't have . . . Period. It is a process, a journey, or pursuing something you believe in. It has steps forward, and set backs, but I guess that makes it living . . . A living faith.
hmmm. "The righteous shall live by faith."
Faith is not static, it is dynamic. Faith in Jesus is life . . . life to the full.

For what it's worth, here's a little intro I recently wrote for a devotional book:
"As the youngest of Jesus’ original twelve disciples, John focused his Gospel on the emerging issues of the culture that the Lord addressed throughout his ministry. While the books of Matthew, Mark, and Luke were primarily comprised of Jewish thoughts and metaphors, John’s account was written to the dominant Greek mindset of the day and its fascination with the mysteries of life. Accordingly, there was a healthy focus on how Christ was the absolute living-flesh fulfillment of every question that the human soul cries out about."
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1)
Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, "What do you want?"
They said, "Rabbi" (which means Teacher), "where are you staying?"
"Come," he replied, "and you will see." (John 1:37-39)
Tony! Great to "see" you again, and I am glad to see you started blogging again. I missed reading on your intermission.
Thanks for the comment.
